Rear main seal leak 426 Hemi

Question guys can the rear engine seal be replaced without pulling engine on a 1969 Hemi Road Runner? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙏

I’ve done it once with a 440, it was as successful as you can expect using the split main seal and stock style side strips working on your back. I had a full set of rods and mains to replace also so I would not do it again but I was much younger then. Now days I have heard the seals aren’t any good, even the one piece main. I guess it depends on how much work it is to get the oil pan off, if the headers need to be dropped etc etc… compared to just pulling it out and putting it on a stand.

You can do it in the car, But by the time you get everything you need unbolted and get the engine jacked up to were you can get the pan out...... Your going to wish you had just taken the engine out of the car to replace it... Not a fun job...

My two cents, Take it out of the car and replace the seal, you will feel alot better about it...

The only thing I could add is just be sure it's the rear main leaking. Very often it's coming from further up and drip in an area that looks like the rear main. Just saying

I agree here, the oil sending unit is above the crank and prone to leak so you need to check it out.

Does the Mopar L-72 oil filter (red, white and blue) fit the 426 Hemi? Thanks 🙏

Should be the same as a Fram PH8A or a Champ PH8A.... All I believe cross to the L-72... Unless I'm out dated.... lol
