83 5.3L swap in to a 91 5.7L K5
Hey everybody! This is my first time posting. I have a 83 d150 pick up. I bought a new/rebuilt 318 5.2L, and rebuilt the A 727. Drove from Texas to ga. hauled a trailer around for a week, went across ga and back. The Trans mount bolts came loose half way in between. Knuckle head I am, I drove it to make a dead line. Needless to say the reverse went out around 3000 miles. b4 and when first rebuilding the trans I think it came out like 6 times to change something. I’m sick of fooling with it. My girlfriend has a 91 k5 blazer that won’t run. I have the 3 year 100,000 warranty on my 318. But I haven’t done a project this big yet. I have no clue if it’s possible with in a small budget, I figure I would need to rebuild the Trans in the k5, get a Trans adaptor, Trans linkage, motor mounts, some kind of exhaust setup-no emission required. I want to run the engine as is, just switch everything over. can anybody offer any advice. I’m kind of shooting in the dark on this one. it would be way easier to just rebuild my trans, but i think it gets tecq. with the transfer case and drive line specs. What kind of hp difference is there between the 5.2L 318 2barrel; and the 5.7L 350 tbi. The dodge is a great work truck, but looks like crap. Plus the k5 is 4x4 and is in very god shape body wise. It would be used for towing a trailer max 8000lbs, and around town some 4 wheeling I imagine.

Adapting a 318 LA motor to a TH350/TH400 is a lot more work than it's worth. You would be better off rebuilding your trans and Leaving it in the D150 and then figuring out why your K5 won't run (electrical, fuel, motor issues). Plus, 350 Ch*vy motors are a dime a dozen, you should be able to pick one up cheap if your issue is the motor.

Take the pan off and look for the strut rod for the front band. IT may be in the pan indicating that the band broke or maybe it was way out of adjustment. DO NOT DRIVE IT THAT WAY DRUM SPEEDS CAN GET CRITICAL AND BLOW UP RIGHT THRU THE FLOOR.....The 727 is and easy trans to rebuild and better than any chevy crap
