Question 1968 coronet 440..rear main seal leak?

I just bought this car over the weekend and I notice theres an oil leak from in between the transmission and engine, so Im guessing rear main seal.

I was told by the prev owner that it was changed when he had the motor built.

when the motor is at operating temperature it leaks/drips around 1 drop per second.

Is it a straight forward job to replace this? pull tranny off and thats it? any heads up, suggestions would be highly appreciated.

thank you in advance.

Are you sure that its not the oil sender that's leaking. It's behind the intake manifold to the left.

As far as the rear main, you pull the pan for replacement.
It can be a pain in the ###!

Yep... Pan comes off... Only way to get to the seal.. All depending on how your set up.. But some times pulling the Motor can be best...

I'll get under it hopefully tomorrow and take a good look. I have done seal jobs on other motors (ls2, 2jz etc) but this time very busy with work so ill see if a shop is able to do it!

another question i have is, my oil pan sits pretty low..its a moroso and hangs 4 or 5" than the cross member. Is there one in the market thats good/short? Ill be lowering the car in the near future.

Thanks

Check into putting the stock sump pan and pick up back on...... Unless there is a reason that it would not work?

You can adjust the pan depth by breaking a ring and pinion with the front wheels about two feat in the air, it has worked for me.

That's with 2" spacers on the bump stops.
