Dodge 440 Sound - Something isn’t quite right
Hi All -
suggestions welcome as the next step is to drop the oil pan.
I have a 70 Challenger w/440. New noise! When running, I hear a constant pffft, pffft, pffft.
thoughts?
thx

Don’t overlook the exhaust…I’ve seen exhaust leaks, make the damnedest noises.

Fuel pump makes that sound and is located in the front right of the motor. Mine was making noise but it was a knocking/tapping sound. I changed it with a new one and it was 10 times louder. I put the old one back in.

It’s not uncommon for a big block to need a fuel pump pushrod, they rarely get replaced with a engine rebuild but after fifty plus years they tend to get shorter…

Only time I pull the pan is when it goes Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,,,,, But Pffft Pffft Pffft... Not going to pull it for that.
Now if you can't find the source, Pull the whole engine and put it on a run stand and determine the problem.
Hope its something simple, Check for a loose Spark Plug....
