Electrical issues
Hello everyone,
I am working on a 1974 dart custom 4 door 318 automatic transmission. I just recently rebuilt the top end and had it running really well. I left to go put fluids into it and come back after refilling try to start it and it wouldn't start And on the 3rd try the wire from my starter relay to the plug in the firewall caught fire. Luckily it was just a fusible link and didn't do any damage. Either it is a 50 year old link or I have a short in the Ignition. Any help in figuring out the problem or directing me in the right direction for a differant inline fuse would be awesome. Thank you

If the fuse block is dead?
The fuse block gets power with the key and also from the amp gauge....
If you have power coming out of the switch them you just have to trace the wires to the problem....
If you dont have power at all to the switch or the amp gauge... Then you have to trace that back out to the engine compartment area possibly the fusible link....

Once you have those powered up we can chas a not crank no start if that becomes a problem....
But you have what sounds like some dead wiring or connections that need to be found at the moment...
Will get there... Keep Chipping at it !!!!

Ya. It just happens that way.... But look at the brite side..... It didnt catch fire and burn down to the ground !!!!!! That would have sucked....
Have you checked the amp Gauge? Power to both sides? They dont give you any warning at all when they go out...
