mopar 360 engine.
I bought a 1965 Plymouth which someone had installed a 360 engine. I've made a lot of upgrades and have now come to the time to put in the oil. Now when I bought the car the dip stick read a quart low and I never thought to check the amount of oil that drained out of it. Now Im using the larger filter which takes approximately 1 quart, I filled it about half full and poured the rest in the motor plus 4 more quarts and checked it . It was a no show on the dip stick so I ad another quart an another an so on till finally it shows up at the ad mark after putting in 9 quarts .I've search out as many 360 oil pans I can find , none of which look like mine an all look to be much smaller. That said is their anyone out there that knows of a stock 360 oil pan that takes 9 quarts of oil ? I'll try to post a few pictures of the oil pan but new to this site so not sure a 70 year old fart kind figure that out...lol... Also the dip stick is 18 inches long and by my measurements that would put it right at the bottom of the front part of the pan.

I have never seen a stock one hold that much oil. It appears there are several different length tubes and sticks for "A" engines. Maybe you have the wrong dipstick and/or tube?
On for "A Bodies Only.com " it mentions a 21"dipstick from tip to handle. .
On another forum it mentions " 11" & 1/16 on the tube and 21" & 3/16 on the dipstick on a 318, and 6&5/8 on one 360 tube (no stick in it) and 6&3/4 on the tube and 16&5/16 on the dipstick on another 360."
Drain the oil , put 4 quarts in and use a piece of wire to find the level. It should be full. Match up the dipstick and tube length
I hope this is some help to you

Maybe it just the angle of the picture but, the pan does look deeper than normal. Especially the rear or shallow end. I wonder if it was used in some sort of industrial application.

360 oil filter
Hi, I'm new to the forum and if I am posting this in the wrong place I apologize. I recently purchased a 1977 Plymouth Volare Road Runner. When I went to change the oil and filter I found that the oil filter was stuck. I tried numerous different wrenches and the proverbial screw driver with no success. I ended up removing the housing and using a chisel, a punch and a torch to finally get off. The oil filter on the motor was a Wix #51068. I don't haver a Wix supplier in my area. I purchased the recommended STP #S16XL for the 360. After I installed it I started the engine and oil "gushed" from the filter mount. I went and bought a Purolater #L14670. Same result - oil flowed out when under pressure. I'm at a loss. I obviously have the wrong filter. When I bought the car I was told it was a 360 and it has a 360 pie tin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
