1977 Dodge Aspen 2 Door Coupe

Well my trans reverse has stopped working looks like. I was driving down the highway and heard the trans drop. It will go in drive but barely, I was able to at least get it into the garage nose first., Man Oh Man it is always something. How much would I be looking at to have it rebuilt?? It is also making noise underneath and my rpms seem to be running high as well when it park. Trans fluid is full. Thank You

I would ask local shade-tree mechanics, if you can. They are going to know of some hole-in-the-wall shop that does good work for half the price. Happened to me, and I just lucked out knowing a local mobile mechanic I worked with who turned me onto the guy. I'd steer clear of the big guys, but that's a gamble in itself haha. Word of mouth, it's your friend.

I got a quote of $1200-$1500 for a rebuild on the Trans and a 2 year warranty. To me it seems like this is kind of high, Called like 8 Tran repair shops and they all say the same. All of my other gears work just not the reverse, So not sure if I am ready to drop those bones just yet. Obviously something has came loose you can hear noise at idle. I might drop the pan and look at it against doctors orders.

Yeah I drive this vehicle maybe a few times a month, So not in a hurry to fix it really. Everything is still original except for the tires and rims on it, Need a head liner made for it and the head rest for the front seat that's about it. I might just drop the pan and see what the filter looks like and see if the rear band can be adjusted at all too.

Sorry about your illness... Hope you feel better soon.....
The price doesn't sound out of alignment. It's about the same out in these parts (So-CAL)
I'm going to guess it broke a part inside the trans.

Well health has got much worse sorry to say, My MRI'S show " Brain Tumors ", They are unsure yet if they can operate are not. Anyways. To follow up on my original post to have the 904 Trans R & R it ended up being $1974.00 Which needless to say really pissed me off, Seems pretty high for a stock build alone even if it was pulled from the vehicle rebuilt and re installed, Are maybe I am wrong with that guess. The owner informed me that the pump was in pieces and that the torque convertor was also done for. Since I am unable to drive right now for obvious reasons I am sending my wife to get the vehicle Friday and also told her before she pays them that I request a complete list of all parts installed as well as a written 2 year warranty as previously discussed. If it is not to much to ask for could you all tell me what your 904's or 727's cost you stocked when you did it yourself are had to pay someone to do it for you?? I know it sucks when we are at others mercy sometimes. Sucks being sick I would of loved to been able to do the build myself I just couldn't do it because of my health. I sure hope this guy used all " NEW PARTS at least ". Thank You

I come up with 1,000 buck just in a front pump, Converter, good kit, let alone any other hard parts it may have needed. And maybe about 500.00 bucks labor?
So i'm going to say it's close... 2 years is a good warranty.. But it is cheaper if you do it yourself... But I totally get your circumstances !!!! Chers and hope you kick the **** out of this Cancer!!!
